Diary, 1861-1863.

Diary covers the period November 6, 1861, to April 28, 1863, with pages missing, and gives a running account of the Civil War as seen from one of the crossroads of the Confederacy. There are frequent references to troop movements, nearby fighting and casualties, the interaction between Confederate troops and civilians, Stonewall Jackson's activities in the Shenandoah Valley, and rumors, as well as talk of social life in the local community.
